The right workflow for your PDF, with usable files at the end

Doc2Lang selects the processing path based on the document, then provides versions for reading, reuse, or review.

Two processing paths

Text PDF: read and translate the text layer

Existing text and positions are read directly, translated with context, and placed back on the page without unnecessary OCR errors.

Scanned PDF: OCR first, then translate

Pages without a reliable text layer are recognized from the image before translation and layout reconstruction; low-quality scans should be reviewed.

Download three PDF versions

Available versions appear on the results page so you can choose what fits your task.

Background-preserved PDF

Keeps images, backgrounds, and the overall page design while replacing the text.

Text-only PDF

Removes decorative backgrounds and keeps the translated text in a clean layout.

Bilingual PDF

Alternates original and translated pages for comparison and proofreading.

Preview first, then decide whether the result is ready to use

Text length, font coverage, and internal PDF structure vary by language, so results are not guaranteed to match pixel for pixel. Low-quality scans, complex handwriting, and legal, medical, or financial documents should be reviewed by a qualified person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of PDF files do you support?
We support both text-based PDFs and image-based PDFs such as scanned documents. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is built into our translation workflow, so you can upload scanned contracts, handwritten notes, or graphic-heavy materials directly — no preprocessing required.
What format is the translated file, and what versions do I receive?
Translations are delivered as PDF files, and you get three versions at once, each suited to different needs: • Translated PDF (with background) — Preserves the original layout, images, and background while replacing only the text. Ideal when you want to keep the document looking like the original. • Text-only PDF (no background) — Strips out backgrounds and decorative elements, leaving just the clean translated text. Great for review and content reuse. • Bilingual PDF — The original page and its translation alternate through the whole document. Made for comparison, language learning, and proofreading. After translation, you can download any or all versions from the results page.
How accurate is the translation?
The system translates with document context and aims to keep terminology consistent. Quality still depends on the source, subject area, and OCR result; legal, medical, financial, and other critical documents should be reviewed by a qualified person.
Is the original layout and formatting preserved?
Doc2Lang preserves heading styles, colors, columns, tables, and image placement where possible. Different text lengths, fonts, and PDF structures mean the result is not guaranteed to match pixel for pixel; use the free preview to check your file.
Which languages are supported?
We support over 100 languages, including English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and many more. OCR processing supports the same wide range of languages, so even scanned PDFs can be translated across a broad spectrum.
How does pricing work? Do I need a subscription?
The preview before payment is free. Complete translations are purchased at the file-specific quote, with no required subscription or membership fee. “Free” on this page refers to the preview, not a free download of the complete file.
Is my document kept private and secure?
Uploads and downloads use HTTPS encryption. Translation content is processed through APIs and is not used to train public models. Files are automatically deleted after 14 days, and you can delete them sooner after translation.
Who owns the translated document?
You retain full ownership and all associated rights to your document throughout the process. We operate under a limited service agreement that grants us only the permissions needed to perform the translation itself — all rights automatically revert to you upon completion.
How long does translation take, and what's the process?
Just three simple steps: (1) upload your file; (2) our system translates it automatically; (3) you receive an email notification when it's ready to download. Everything runs in the background, so there's no need to keep your browser open.
